There for You

Privacy Policy

There for You is designed around private, meaningful conversations. We collect account and profile information you provide (including your age group, whether you're a woman or a man, who you'd like to meet and where you are in life, which is used only for introductions and not shown to other members), connection and scheduling information needed to operate the service, safety reports and moderation events, and technical information needed for security and reliability.

Location

We never use GPS or your device's location. You can add a ZIP code if you'd like to meet people nearby, and choose how close: within a number of miles, your city, your state, your time zone, or anywhere in the US. It's optional, and you can change or remove it at any time. We use it only to find members who fit that choice, and other members never see it. ZIP code places come from GeoNames (geonames.org, CC BY 4.0).

Conversations and video

Messages and safety signals may be processed by the service to provide moderation and protect members. Video calls are encrypted from your device to the other person's. They pass through Cloudflare's relay servers, so other members never see your internet address, and the relay can't see or hear the call.

Our support team can see account details to help you, such as whether your email is confirmed and who you are connected with. Staff do not read your private messages, except in a conversation where someone has filed a safety report. Every time staff open an account or a reported conversation, it is recorded.

Identity checks

ID checks are done by Didit, an independent ID verification company, on its own secure pages. We receive the result and keep a one-way code made from your verified name and birth date, so one ID can only have one account and a removed member can't rejoin under a new email. We also learn whether your first name, age group and profile photo match your ID (we use the name on your ID as your first name, and the age group from your birth date), and where the ID was issued and the check was done from. We keep only those yes or no answers. We don't keep your ID, the selfie video from the ID check, your birth date or Social Security number. Your profile photo is the one picture we keep (plus a new one you've taken while our team checks it), and it's shown only to your connections and the members we introduce you to.

Face checks

Checking your ID uses your face. Didit makes a scan of your face's features to compare the selfie video from your ID check with the photo on your ID and with your profile photo, and, when you change your photo, the new one with the one it replaces. We ask for your agreement on a separate screen first, and we never sell, rent or trade this information or use it for advertising. We keep only the yes or no answer, never a face scan or a picture from the ID check. You can withdraw in Settings. Our Biometric policy has the details.

Safety recording

Every call is recorded on your device, encrypted and kept for up to 3 days. No one can access it unless someone on the call sends it with a report, so an administrator can review it.

How it works: every video call is recorded, group calls too, and you agree to it before your first call. Each phone or computer keeps the last 15 minutes of each call, locked and encrypted so not even you can open it, and deletes it after 3 days. A recording reaches us only after a member reports a call and sends it. Only our admins can open it, and every opening is recorded. We delete it when the report is closed, unless the law makes us keep it longer, for example after a court order or a report of harm to a child.

When we share information because of the law

We share information with police or courts only when we must: a valid subpoena, court order or search warrant; an emergency where someone may be in danger of death or serious injury; or a report of child sexual exploitation to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which federal law requires. We share only what the request covers. Unless the law or a court stops us, or someone is in danger, we tell the member first.

You agree for yourself

Each member agrees to these terms, face checks and safety recording for themselves. Family or friends who help you sign up can't agree for you.

Payments

Paid membership checkout and billing management are handled through Stripe. We do not store full payment-card numbers.

Your choices

You can pause matching, leave conversations, report members, and delete your account. When you close your account, we delete it. The one exception is an account with safety reports or blocks: we keep a closed record of it, so someone removed for safety can't simply rejoin. To ask about your data, or to have it deleted, email support.
